If you are using the CalDigit RAIDCard with the MacPro internal hard drives for OS purpose, and the Opearting System is on more than 1 internal hard drives (such as RAID 5 or RAID 0 array); or you are using the HDPro / HDOne / HDElement as the boot up drive with the MAC OSX installed, please follow these steps.
Make sure the entire contents (OS + Data) can be cloned on to an external enclosure, or you can perform a clean OS installation (while the data stored on an external enclosure); the installation processes will be:
!!Before you start, please make sure the important data are safely stored on other storage device!!
1. Look for an external boot-able drive. The capacity must be equal or above your current OS volume (for example: the OS is 370GB, then the external drive must be 370GB or more). The connection can be firewire or USB.
2. Clone the internal OS volume to the external enclosure. (Use Carbon Copy Cloner, clone the data from the internal RAID array to the external enclosure). Or perform a clean OS installation on this external enclosure.
3. Restart the computer, and boot into this external enclosure. Making sure the external enclosure is boot-able.
4. Turn off the computer, and pull out all four internal hard drives (or disconnect the HDPro / HDOne machines).
5. Turn on the computer, and boot into the external enclosure with the cloned OS.
6. Update the operating system to 10.6 on the external enclosure.
7. When the OS installation is completed, please install the .mpkg file in "Mac Installer"'s "10.6" folder. (The files are located @ HDPro/HDOne/RAID Card/Mac_v2.0.2)
8. After the installation is complete, please turn off the computer and put all four internal hard drives back to the computer (or reconnect the HDPro / HDOne machines).
9. After putting the reconnecting the drives back to the computer, please restart the computer and boot into the external enclosure.
10. Use the Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the new OS 10.6 (from the external enclosure back to the internal RAID array).
11. Once the clone process is completed, please re-assign the startup disk via "System Preference"'s "Startup disk". If the entire contents (OS+data) are too big on one single drive, please be sure to store the data on a separate drive.
