TS3 Plus Testimonial

“...the TS3 Plus is so exapandable, that I cannot imagine ever needing another dock."

Amin who is trusted Community Member on Wikipedia reflects on his experiences with the CalDigit Thunderbolt™ Station 3 Plus and the workflow improvements it offers.
Q. Transferring photographs from SD cards can be time consuming. The TS3 Plus’ card reader is utilizing SD 4.0 UHS-II speeds. Is it extremely important to get files transferred fast?

For my work for Wikipedia, I deal with high resolution images a lot, but luckily time is not an important factor in my work. Nonetheless, more speed is always welcome, and it's good to know my docking stations supports the best and latest standard.

Q. The TS3 Plus features 15 ports for connecting various devices such as hard drives. Is it important to have lots of ports for connecting your devices and what devices are you connecting?

Connectivity is probably the single most important factor in a Thunderbolt 3 hub. If a docking station lacks certain ports, you will end up needing to connect a second dock which defeats the purpose. The TS3 Plus is a final 'all-in-one' solution. I have a lot of peripherals and they are all connected to my TS3 Plus, and even then I still have ports left on the dock. This makes the dock future-proof, so if I ever need more ports for new devices, the TS3 Plus will remain my only dock to connect everything to my MacBook Pro.

Q. The TS3 Plus is the only Thunderbolt dock to feature a USB 3.1 Gen. 2 10Gb/s port. Do you find this to be a crucial feature?

Yes, the world is changing fast and USB-C will soon be the standard. The TS3 Plus is the only dock that I'm aware of that rocks a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, which is useful when working with high end SSD drives.

Q. The TS3 Plus supports dual 4K monitors. Does the ability to connect multiple high-resolution monitors to the dock make it easier to work?

Absolutely. The fact that I can connect all my external displays, simply by plugging in a single Thunderbolt 3 cable to my MacBook Pro makes life easier. Before I had this dock, I had to connect two seperate USB-C hubs, and for some reason they kept failing on me. The first USB-C hub worked well for about 6 months, until one of the USB-A ports on it stopped working. The second USB-C hub that I connected, had a failing HDMI-port. I've had to replace each one a few times. It was messy and unreliable. I had to connect two seperate cables to my MacBook Pro to get everything connected. The TS3 Plus solves this problem and cuts it down to a single Thunderbolt 3 cable.

Q. The TS3 Plus can charge a Thunderbolt 3 laptop in addition to connecting multiple devices. Does single-cable docking help simplify your workflow?

It definitely does. No more worries about cable management or a cluttered desk. Especially since I am using the 1 Meter Thunderbolt 3 cable. The longer cable gives me a lot more freedom of movement on my desk and I no longer need the original Apple charger at my desk, as the TS3 Plus has its own power supply.
Q. What are your impressions on the build quality of the TS3 Plus?

I love the aluminum casing. It's very solid and sturdy.
Q. Would you recommend the TS3 Plus?

Yes, this is by far the best dock on the market. It's expandability is second to none. It's perfect for media professionals and every port works reliably. Go for the 1 meter cable version so that you'll have more freedom of movement on your desk.

Q. What devices do you connect to the TS3 Plus?

- Two external displays
- Two external hard drives
- 3.5mm Audio cable
- iPhone charger
- SanDisk SD Card
- USB-A LED Light
- Mouse
Q. If you were to buy a new dock in the future would you go for a CalDigit dock?

Absolutely. Though, honestly, the TS3 Plus is so exapandable, that I cannot imagine ever needing another dock. The dock contains more ports than any media professional could ever need.
