What inspired your interest in photography?
I started taking photography classes in college. It was still film then and I took every class available. This was before digital photography, so I was doing a lot of experimentation both in the streets and the darkroom. I focused then on a lot of urban landscapes. I was also an avid skateboarder so I shot a lot of skateboarding, which I still do on occasion, but now I mostly focus on portraiture/lifestyle/fashion.
What projects have you worked on?
I've shot for a range of clients from Converse to eBay, along with Editorial work from magazines like Rolling Stone and XXL.
Transferring photographs from SD cards can be time consuming. The TS3 Plus’ card reader is utilizing SD 4.0 UHS-II speeds. As a photographer is it extremely important to get files transferred fast?
It's extremely important, both on location, or when returning from a shoot to get the images onto your computer as quickly as possible. It's possible to shoot more than a hundred gigabytes on a single shoot, so the last thing you want is to spend hours importing cards at the end of the day.
Backing-up your photographs must be vital. The TS3 Plus features 7 USB ports for connecting various devices such as hard drives. It even features a USB 3.1 Gen. 2 port for extra speed. Is it important to have lots of ports for connecting your devices?
It's essential to have enough ports for all you peripherals. On photo shoots we never walk away without at least 3 copies of the days shoots, which have been constantly sync'd to external drives during the shoot. Trying to do all that, along with card readers, external monitors, etc... with the new MacBook Pro's 4 USB-C ports is a challenge. The dock's expanded ports selection allows use of all the peripherals that haven't yet converted to USB-C as well, without all the dongles.
When working with your files in applications such as Photoshop you need to see every detail. The TS3 Plus supports dual 4K monitors. Does the ability to connect multiple high-resolution monitors to the dock make it easier to work?
Having external monitors is a must, even a 15" Macbook Pro isn't a large enough screen to properly see all the detail/color you need to when retouching images. Having the one cable of the TS3 Plus to connect it all is the first time I've felt like the promise of Thunderbolt 3 has been realized.
The TS3 Plus can charge a Thunderbolt 3 laptop in addition to connecting multiple devices. Does single-cable docking help simplify your workflow?
I haven't used the Apple power adapter since I got the dock. The ability to get home from a shoot, plug the laptop into the one Thunderbolt 3 cable, I have immediate access to power, external drives and monitor. Saves me time each day. The power adapter is only used when I'm away from home.
What are your impressions on the build quality of the TS3 Plus?
When I'm away for extended periods I bring the TS3 Plus on the road with me, in and out of the camera bag with the rest of my EQ and it’s solidly built.
Would you recommend the TS3 Plus?
I've already recommended it to a few friends who have purchased the TS3 Plus for themselves.
What devices do you connect to the TS3 Plus?
An external monitor, my Archive RAID drives, Wacom tablet, Printer, bus powered external drives, CFast card readers, iPhone X wireless charging pad to name a few.
